The Winter Guard

The Winter Guard participated in the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) competition at Texas State University on April 2nd and 3rd.

It was a pretty good weekend for both Guards:

Congratulations to both Guards, their instructors, and everyone who helped this season.

People have asked "Hey Webguy, why aren't there any photos of the Winter Guard on the web site?"

It's not easy getting good photos at a Guard competition:

The competition is in a gym. It's not very well lit, and you can't use a flash.

The performers move pretty fast, and the spectators are not very close.

This means that a lot of photos of flags passing in front of faces, blurry photos, and photos of the backs of the performers heads:

But here are some photos from this year:

COMPETITION NOTES:

Information from Texas Color Guard Circuit (website) of interest to spectators, helpers, and other folks with an interest in Winter Guard:

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOTAPING:

For the safety of the performers in the gym we ask that NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY be used while a unit is performing. This can be very distracting to the performers and could cause someone to be hit by tossed equipment and be injured. Please communicate this to everyone with your unit, as it is most often the friends and family of the performing unit who violates this safety courtesy. We do not want to risk anyone being injured. Videotaping is allowed at all TCGC contests EXCEPT Circuit Championships.

CHECK IN:

Each unit is allowed to have 7 extra "helpers." These "helpers" get free admission to the contest. However, in all fairness to those who did pay to see the contest, those with free admission (performers and "helpers") must sit in the back stands. The entire performing unit (directors, performers, and helpers) must check in together and receive hand stamps.
